History Overview
The Boyle Lecture
St Mary’s was the location for many of the famous Boyle Lectures of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Three Rectors of the parish - Samuel Bradford (Rector from 1693 to 1720), Thomas Newton (1744-60) and William Van Mildert (1796-1820) gave Boyle Lectures during the series’ heyday. The Boyle Lectures have recently been revived at St Mary’s.
