Mr Sheriff Peter Cook lays a wreath in commemoration of Admiral Arthur Phillip at the memorial in Watling Street.
The Rector and Verger of St Mary-le-Bow, and Mr James North from the Mansion House, look on.
While scaffolding stands in St Mary-le-Bow during the preparation for our new organ, the annual Arthur Phillip commemoration moved down the lane to St Mary Aldermary. Instead of the wreath being placed beneath the bust of Admiral Phillip that stands in St Mary-le-Bow, this year the congregation walked up Watling Street to the memorial there. This year's address was given by historian Mr Tony Beadles, a former headmaster of King's School Bruton, and of Epsom College.
The choir sang carols old and new to its remarkable standard, the organ was played for - almost - the last time before our new instrument is built next year, our Curate preached about the Nativity before a capacity congregation. Despite the recesssion - and the bitter weather - our Parish Carol Service proved as rich and warm as ever.
