John F. Haught is a Roman Catholic theologian and the Landegger Distinguished Professor of Theology at Georgetown University in Washington DC. His area of expertise is systematic theology, with a special interest in issues of science, cosmology, ecology, and reconciling evolution and religion.
He graduated from St Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, and subsequently received his PhD in theology from the Catholic University of America in 1970. He was the chair of Georgetown's theology department between 1990 and 1995.
Professor Haught is the author of several important books on the creation / evolution controversy, including Deeper Than Darwin: The Prospect For Religion In The Age Of Evolution, and God After Darwin: A Theology of Evolution.
Richard Chartres became the 132nd Bishop of London in November 1995 and was enthroned at St Paul’s Cathedral on 26th January 1996. He was educated at Hertford Grammar School and studied history at Trinity College, Cambridge.
He was ordained in 1973 and served as a curate in St Andrew’s Bedford. In 1975 he was appointed chaplain to Robert Runcie, then Bishop of St Albans, and from 1980-84 he served as chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury. He moved to St Stephen’s, Rochester Row in the Diocese of London in 1984, and was consecrated Bishop of Stepney in 1992.
After his move to the see of London, Dr Chartres was appointed Dean of HM Chapels Royal and a Privy Counsellor. He is an ex officio member of the House of Lords.
